Canon Point: Post-Canon Death, Episode 23 R1

History:
They called her the "Massacre Princess" all across Japan.

Personality:
Amongst a family bred to conquer and enslave, she is among the few who lives with an entirely different purpose in mind. Euphemia li Britannia, the Third Princess in line to the throne of Britannia, is perhaps the very epitome of purity itself within the ranks of Britannian Imperial Family. While many of her half-sisters and brothers are calculating, devious, or hungry for power, Euphemia sets a different tone for the Britannian family line by being opposite of all of that. She is your clichéd princess in every way—caring, empathetic, and innocent to a fault, thinking only for the well-being of others over herself. In some ways it would seem she came straight out of a fairy tale, clashing with her surroundings in an era of war. She is a vigilant and easygoing character with a spark and unique brilliance that is often unmatched by others.

A social butterfly and animated conversationalist, she enjoys meeting new people regardless of rank or social status. Nevertheless, this does not make her the pinnacle of perfection as many tend to think. Her sheltered life has blinded her to the reality of things within her world thus her reasoning behind her naïve tendencies. Curiosity often entails her to seek out the truth and learn more on her own will. Whether it’s sneaking out and taking on the guise of a civilian or merely observing from afar, she has a penchant for trying to understand and see the world around her from her own perspective rather through the biased eyes of her family.

She is known for acting on impulse, making decisions purely on either her beliefs or of the heart. This tends to conflict with the beliefs of her sister—such as putting herself literally in the line of danger in hopes to halt attacks—but she does it out of stubbornness that someday even her own sister will stand behind her. She is not at all a fighter but is not afraid to take charge or see a mission through if it is beneficial in some way towards the cause of setting right within the world. It is because of this trait that she tends to look up to her older sister, admiring her prowess and abilities on the field. Their differences in beliefs are the only thing that sets them apart, but it does not stop Euphy from including her in what she hopes to accomplish in the future, even if at the cost of her position on the throne.

The problem with Euphemia is that she is very much a sheltered individual. Whether done purposefully or not, her time spent within the protection of Britannia has blinded her to many of the issues of the world. It is possible that this may have been influenced by Cornelia and her desire to protect her sister from the impurities of the world itself, but it is easily remedied when she is placed as sub-viceroy shortly after the death of her half-brother. It only then does she begin to see the world for what it really was—war-torn and drenched with the politics of a country desperate to regain its independence while being strangled by the influence of her home country.

Euphemia will and can take charge when the action calls for it. Valuing the welfare of everyone when in regards to the current state of affairs, she believes in promoting and carrying out equality amongst all mankind. This often means speaking up for those who cannot speak for themselves and even throwing herself into the line of danger to protect others. A demonstration of this can be seen when she was held hostage at the hotel amongst a plethora of other civilians. When one of the civilians was at risk of being endangered, Euphy promptly revealed her identity to the culprits so that all attention was drawn to her instead of the innocent. She carries with her a strong-will, standing in the face of danger with a firm resolve rather than that of a damsel in distress. While she may not be the most combatant type, this does not mean she is weak. Her strength shows through her spirit and determination, the desire to see things through and do whatever it takes for it to happen—even if it means using herself as a sacrifice.

She is, as Lelouch put it so delicately, just plain little Euphy. But in the end, it is her thoughtful actions and selfless behavior that somehow enables her to win against even the cunning and strategical likes of her half-brother, Lelouch. Somehow, it is her selfless thinking that might have brought an end to the tragedies of their world. Her hope for SAZ (Special Administrative Zone of Japan) was a path in restoring independence and providing the elevens their rightful citizenry in exchange for abdicating her right to the throne. In the end, seeing her family happy mattered more to her than ruling a country. It was an idea she had hoped to share with Lelouch or "Zero", but unfortunate tragedies deemed it not possible once she was accidentally Geassed to "Kill all the Japanese".

Euphemia admits to not being very skilled or bright when it comes to studies, yet what she lacks in strategical thinking and other power-play methods she makes up for with her compassionate and humanitarian approach to life. Understanding and even patient, she symbolizes a princess to the very last fault. She is a princess not because of rank, but because of her heart.
